Nikon Z6 and Z7 Firmware Version 3.00 Field Test

Nikon DX (APS-C) Z-mount Mirrorless Camera Coming

Here is a video review of the latest Nikon Z6 and Z7 firmware 3.00 field test. Steve Perry published a new 15min video testing the latest fw update.

Nikon has released the new firmware version 3.00 for Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras to add the animal eye detection AF, improved subject-tracking AF. In addition to autofocus improvements, the Nikon Z6/Z7 firmware update v3.0 also adds compatibility for other CFExpress memory cards. Check CFexpress card brands at Adorama, B&H, and Amazon in the US.

Yes, I know I’m a little late to the party with this test. However, rather than just installing the new Z6 / Z7 firmware, testing it for an hour, and giving you a “report” like most YouTube videos, I wanted to be a little more thorough.

I have been using the Z7 heavily – both at home and in the field – since the 3.0 firmware update and really putting the new features to the test. In this video, I’ll discuss how to set them up, how they work, what’s good, what’s not, and more.

We’ll specifically look at how the new Animal Eye-AF works with both pets and wildlife, we’ll talk about the improved Tracking Mode operation (and how well Tracking Mode is working for wildlife), and we’ll wrap up with a discussion of the current state of the Nikon AF system in the Z cameras.
