Panasonic has announced a major firmware update for its Lumix S and G series cameras, aimed at enhancing functionality and expanding creative options for photographers and videographers. New Panasonic firmware updates available for the S5II, S5IIX, GH7, and G9II cameras.
Key improvements include expanded compatibility with the Lumix Lab smartphone app, enabling remote shooting, shutter control, image transfer, and live streaming capabilities (on select models). This integration provides creators with greater flexibility and efficiency, particularly during mobile or on-location shoots.
The firmware introduces enhanced subject detection with Panasonic’s advanced phase hybrid autofocus system. It now supports airplane, train, and vehicle part detection, improving precision for diverse shooting scenarios. Users can also take advantage of new zoom options: Hybrid Zoom combines optical zoom with Crop Zoom for increased magnification, while the standalone Crop Zoom function delivers an extended zoom range without quality loss.
Content creators will benefit from the ability to display up to three adjustable frame markers simultaneously, making it easier to frame for different aspect ratios or compositions. Additionally, MP4(Lite) compatibility for Open Gate mode reduces data consumption, optimising video files for social media sharing.
