New Firmware Updates for Nikon Z7, Z6, Z5, Z50, Zfc, WR-1, Z 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens

Nikon released new firmware updates for Nikon Z7Z6, Z5, Z50, Zfc mirrorless cameras, WR-1 and Z 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens. Nikon Z6 and Z7 updated to the firmware version 3.40, while the Nikon Z50 firmware updated to version 2.20.

This new firmware adds support for FTZ II mount adapters, and the new NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S lenses. The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S gives users an extremely useful 24-120mm range focal length and S-line optical quality.

Nikon Z7 Firmware Version 3.40

Changes from “C” Firmware Version 3.31 to 3.40

  • • Added support for:
    • – FTZ II mount adapters, and
    • – NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S lenses.
  • • Flicker is less likely to appear in the display during filming when N-Log or RAW footage is recorded to external HDMI video recorders at low light levels.
  • • Improved eye detection performance for Auto-area AF.
  • • Increased the refresh rate for the focus point displayed during face/eye-detection and subject-tracking AF.
  • • Improved face/eye detection performance and the visibility of subjects in pictures taken using an optional flash unit.
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • – The camera would sometimes stop responding when Auto was selected for Set Picture Control in the PHOTO SHOOTING MENU.
    • – The camera would sometimes exceed the value selected for ISO sensitivity settings > Maximum sensitivity in the MOVIE SHOOTING MENU.

Nikon Z6 Firmware Version 3.40

Changes from “C” Firmware Version 3.31 to 3.40

  • • Added support for:
    • – FTZ II mount adapters, and
    • – NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S lenses.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S Lens Firmware Version 1.20

Changes from Firmware Version 1.10 to 1.20

  • • Added support for the following features when the lens is mounted on a Z 9:
    • – Camera and lens VR are synchronized for improved vibration reduction (synchro VR).
    • – When an option other than Non-linear is selected for Custom Setting f9 (Focus ring rotation range), the focus ring responds linearly to focus changes between the minimum focus distance and infinity, regardless of the speed with which the ring is rotated.
  • • Fixed an issue that in rare instances would result in hybrid autofocus halting at the minimum focus distance during contrast-detect AF.

Nikon WR-1 Firmware Version 1.04

WR-1 firmware updates can be performed with:

  • • Z 9, Z 7II, Z 7, Z 6II, Z 6, and Z 5 cameras
  • • D6, D5, D4S, D4 (*), Df, D850, D810A, D810, D800 (*), D800E (*), D780, and D750 cameras
  • • D500, D7500, D7200, and D7100 cameras
    * Firmware versions “A” 1.10/“B” 1.10 or later.
    – Other cameras cannot be used to upgrade WR-1 firmware.
    – Firmware upgrades can be performed for you by a Nikon-authorized service representative.
