The current Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM is more than 20 years old and it doen’t have an image stabilization system. The upcoming EF 135mm f/2L IS USM lens will have this integrated IS technology to reduce image blur.

Canon is allegedly working on a new mid-telephoto prime lens for full-frame DSLRs. It will be called EF 135mm f/2L IS USM lens and to be announced in 2018, sources say.

Canon is also working on a 50mm focal length prime lens which will be announced in 2018 too. The rumor mill indicates that both the EF 50mm f/1.4L IS USM and EF 135mm f/2L IS USM lenses likely share some of the design and technology that have gone into the new EF 85mm f/1.4L IS.

On the other hand there were several patents for the 135mm focal length filed earlier. The latest one mentions that the optical design of the EF 135mm f/2L USM lens will contain two apodization filters.

It seems that Canon will update two portrait lenses in 2018. One of these will be the EF 135mm f/2L IS USM lens. Stay tuned with us for more information.
