Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 Macro USM lens to be announced in late 2017

Canon may announce an EF-mount 50mm Macro lens in the near future. The EF 50mm f/1.4 Macro USM lens is expected to be announced towards the end of 2017.

The Japan-based company launched the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM back in early 2015. Despite the 50mm f/1.2L II USM gossip talks, it seems like the f/1.4 macro version is the one that is scheduled for this year.

Of course, the most important of these is the new 50mm lens, will replace the current EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens which is 25 years old.

The rumor mill is sure that another 50mm optic is coming this year, as the current generation is very old and a replacement is a must. We do not yet know the specifications of this lens. When the announcement date approaches, we will probably have more detailed information about the minimum netting distance.

The upcoming Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 Macro USM lens would come packed with an improved design and better optical formula. The new optic will not have (IS) image stabilization technology. It will use the Micro USM motor.

According to rumors, announcement of this lens would be fourth quarter of 2017. If the date of the announcement is such, then shipping will begin as early as 2018.
