Hi, are your recommendations based on the resolving capabilities of each lens? I realize that D7100 has 1.5 times more pixel density than the D800. I saw several reviews that not all the lenses performed well on the D800. the lens would have to be better than that to resolve 1.5 times more. What are your thoughts?
Thanks.

Hi, this is a composition of lenses according to DxOMark test results, price and popularity of the lenses. D7100 is a mid-range camera like D7000 and the good old D90. So these lenses are also the ones which are popular in DX format (crop factor). Hope you find it useful.

You can’t use every lens with D800 camera. Below are the links we try to mention before for this issue. D600 also uses the same lenses like D800.

The Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro is not $269; best deal right now is $489.00. You should update the price tabel to keep the article actual.

A 17-70mm range would be ideal (25,5-105 full frame equivalent). The new Sigma C?

Is this lens compatible with D7100: Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon Digital SLR (Model A14NII)

dcnadmin

This lens is compatible with Nikon AF-D. You can use this lens on Nikon D7100, the camera has built-in AF motor.

I would like to buy a Bower 500mm f/8 Manual Focus Telephoto T-Mount Lens plus a compatible TC for zoom multiplication. Does it work with Nikon D7100 DSLR?? Does the said lens compatible with the built in AF motor of the camera to set the auto focus system (same as Nikon 50mm 1.8D lens which is perfectly working with my Nikon D7100 camera’s built-n AF motor to auto focus even if the lens is manual prime)??
thanks

Hi Suresh,

Yes it is sure compatible with D7100. You can even use this lens with entry-level models like D3200, D5100, D5200 etc. But you have to know that this lens is all manual use only. This means it doesn’t send info to the camera. You have to set aperture, shutter speed, ISO manually. Also there is no stabilisation on the lens. This means it really needs a tripod usage.

Anyway this is a good lens for a very affordable price with its focal length.

Suresh

Thanks a lot for the valuable reply….appreciated..

Im looking at purchasing the Nikon d7100. And would like your opinion on the best zoom lense around 1000.00 for shooting my sons soccer games.

Colin

Whoever wrote this list is a moron. Rrecommending a 14-24 AF-S, or worse, the AF-S 17-35 f/2.8D lens as a wide angle zoom lens for a X camera has no clue. These are both FX lenses, and when you add-in the 1.5X factor for FX lenses on DX bodies, you get a 21-36 or a 26-53mm (equivalent) lens.

Yet they fail to mention the excellent 12-24mm Nikkor DX wide angle lens.which is of excellent quality, is much smaller, and is much less expensive than either of their ‘recommendations’ is further proof they know not what they do.

USing FX tele’s on DX cameras is a great idea, since they are functionally longer than on a FX body, but FX wides on a DX body make no sense, especially when most of the ‘normal zooms’ are 18-XXX lenses, so going to a 17mm lens and calling it a ‘wide’ is just plain silly.

LAStly, on macro lenses, they list a bunch of 90-105mm macro lenses, yet fail to list the 105 Micro-Nikkor as a macro lens, which is a world-class macro lens. Yet they list it as a portrait lens. So dumb.
