Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens to be Announced in Early 2024

According to recent Canon rumors, a new RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM with inner zoom is scheduled to be announced in 2024. This will probably be called Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens.

The introduction of the new 70-200mm F2.8 makes a lot of sense because many Canon sports photographers have continued using older EF 70-200mm models with adapters, preferring their internal zoom design. An internally zooming RF 70-200mm f/2.8L would provide desired handling for this key user base. It’s unclear whether this would be a marked “version II” or simply a new offering in the RF lineup. The original collapsible design remains popular for its portability.

While Canon shooters also await other unreleased lenses, insiders expect numerous new RF optics will be announced in the next six months. An internal zoom 70-200mm f/2.8L is likely one of them.
