New Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens Tests

By on

Here are the new tests and reviews for the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens. The US price for FE 200-600mm lens is $1,998.00 (B&H Photo Video/Adorama) and it will be released in August 2019.

The FE 200-600 F5.6-6.3 G OSS has 24 elements, including aspherical and extra-low dispersion glass. The lens focuses and zooms internally, has 11 aperture blades and uses a Direct Drive SSM autofocus motor. The minimum focus distance is 2.4m (< 8 feet) and the maximum magnification is 0.2x. The 200-600 is 318mm (1ft) long and weighs in at 2.1kg (4.9lbs) without its tripod foot attached.

This is a flexible zoom perfectly suited for nature, wildlife, and sports applications. Its long reach pairs with a modest maximum aperture range to render to a relatively lightweight and portable design, which benefits handheld use.

Size Comparison: FE 200-600mm vs FE 400mm f/2.8 GM vs FE 100-400 GM Lenses

Alin Popescu tested the new Sony 200-600mm lens:

I really loved it: its reach is amazing, is incredibly sharp, has superb color rendering and bokeh and has an affordable price for this kind of lens.

But I still love the incredible lightness of my 100-400 G Master lens, it’s better weather sealing, speed of acquiring subjects and tracking them. And I can always add the 1.4x TC that will get me close to 600, but at a cost of 1 EV.

It’s even a tougher decision if you just want to buy now one of these two superb lenses Sony has produced. I feel you!
