Sony Released New Firmware Update To Reduce FE Lens Startup Speeds

Sony today released a new firmware update for select FE full-frame E-mount lenses including SEL35F28Z, SEL2470Z, SEL55F18Z, SEL70200G and SEL2870 to shorten start up time when mounted on α E-mount camera bodies.

The first update, available immediately, reduces the startup times of five existing FE lenses when mounted on E-mount bodies. See the list below.

On the other hand, new Sony FE lenses introduced today will offer fast startup times on Sony’s full-frame a7 series cameras (in all other respects they are already fully compatible). This update will be available at the end of the month.

  • FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS

You can check the details at the Sony e-support site (www.esupport.sony.com) for more information. Update! to find the updates you have to search with the lens product name ex. SEL55F18Z.

Can you confirm this firmware update, because I followed the esupport.sony.com link, only to discover that no such update was available for the 70-200mm f4 (or 24-70mm f4) lens:
