Canon Confirms The Replacement For EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens

Canon’s Chuck Westfall has confirmed to CNET that Canon is working on a replacement for the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens.

According to Chuck Westfall ”It’s definitely on the boards for replacement” but the release date for the upcoming EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II telephoto zoom lens is not clear yet.

The successor of Canon EF 100-400mm f4-5.6L IS lens is rumored for years and the announcement of the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6L IS II lens previously rumored for early 2014 and than at Photokina 2014 event along with the EOS 7D Mark II DSLR.

You can now buy the old EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM telephoto zoom lens with a price tag around $1,699 at Amazon.

Canon also plans to introduce more DO (diffractive optics lenses), though manufacturing costs have to come down before we see more “popular” type lenses.
