Olympus is Working on a New XZ Compact Camera with 50mm f/1 Lens

Olympus is rumored to be working on a new XZ compact camera with a 1/1.7-inch-type image sensor and a fixed full frame equivalent 50mm f/1 lens.

Recently Olympus filed a new patent in Japan. The new Olympus 11mm f/1 patent describes a fixed-lens for compact cameras with a 1/1.7-inch-type image sensor.

The 11mm f/1 lens in the patent details provides a 35mm equivalent of 50mm focal length. This shows that Olympus is working on a ground breaking high-end compact camera.

If rumors are true and the XZ-series camera featuring a fixed full frame equivalent 50mm f/1 lens become active. It will surely be the competitor for the Sony RX1.

Currently Olympus Stylus 1 bridge camera is the high-end model in the lineup. Also this camera would definitely become the worldwide fastest compact camera! See all the XZ series cameras.
