Actually this telephoto zoom optic is claimed to be announced with the Panasonic G9 in late 2017. The company decided to first unveil the 200mm and postpone this model to the beginning of 2018. As a side note it will be the Panasonic’s 10th premium lens after the Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 POWER O.I.S. lens ($2,998).
The lens was first displayed at the 2016 Photokina show and under development for a while. It will be one of the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit F2.8-4 premium lenses. The trio of Leica DG lenses consists of 8-18mm wide-angle, 12-60mm standart zoom and 50-200mm telephoto zoom. All these lenses will provide f/2.8 and f/4 aperture through out the zoom range.
