Sony is rumored to announce a new FE 16mm f/1.8 GM lens in early 2021. Official announcement date is not clear yet but we expect this wide-angle prime lens with bright aperture to be announced at major events at the beginning of 2021.
Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 GM lens will be fastest 16mm lens in the world. It will be “about the same size and build quality” as the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM lens, so expect a large, well-built lens with lots of glass and a hefty price tag. This will be an excellent addition to the current Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G lens ($898) and FE 24mm f/1.4 GM lens.
Currently the widest angle and fastest lens for Sony’s full-frame mirrorless cameras is 20mm f/1.8 G and the widest f/1.8 is the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 FE. This lens will be well-suited to landscape, nature, street photography and astrophotography.
G Master lenses are designed and built to meet the rigorous requirements of professionals both in the field and in the studio. They are heavily weather sealed for use outdoors, they have the best available lens coatings to minimize flare and maximize contrast, and they are build using the latest materials to minimize weight despite the often complex optical formula.
