Sony a6700 to Feature 32MP Global Shutter APS-C Sensor?

By on

According to recent reports, the upcoming Sony A6700 camera might use a new image sensor which is in 32MP resolution with global shutter.

The sensor in question is called Sony IMX342LQA. It is a global shutter APS-C CMOS sensor chip and could be in the works for a possible Alpha a6700 or some other camera like an FS7 replacement. We may well expect the global shutter performance of this chip should be featured in future Sony cameras with APS-C sensor.

Now let’s give more details about the Sony IMX342LQA, the 32MP APS-c sensor for a possible Sony A6700 mirrorless camera.

Sony a6700 to use 32MP Global Shutter APS-C Sensor?

Sony has a schedule of this products and introduce a new version every year (click here). An update to the A6000-series looks promising in 2018. There are no details about the Sony A6700 announcement date. The rumor mill predicts that the company might unveil the product in the second half of 2018. This should be before September in order the A6700 to join the party at Photokina 2018.

Now there are several images leaked from Weibo, showing the Sony IMX342LQA sensor. The upcoming Sony A6700 may use this global shutter APS-C CMOS sensor.

If we talk more about this sensor. It is 32-megapixel in resolution and include front side illumination chip which is cheaper to manufacture than BSI. The size of the sensor is in APS-C with 4:3 ratio. This is also good for anamorphic work.

According to our expectations on the Sony A6700 specs, the mirrorless camera will also offer 16-stop wide dynamic range & 26bit+ Color. We believe the photographers also benefit from the apt processing speed, which will enable continuous shooting at 15 fps with 16-bit raw file output.

The A6500 had an awful battery life. It’s rated 310 shots via viewfinder shooting and 350 with the LCD. The A6700 specs list expects improvements on the battery life.
