Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD Lens Reviews and Samples

By on

Here are the first Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens reviews, samples surfaced on the web.

The new Tamron 18-400mm is an ultra-wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens designed for APS-C crop sensor DSLRs. It is remarkably compact and lightweight for a lens covering such an extremely wide zoom range.  The focal length is equivalent to 29-640mm for Canon and 27-600mm for Nikon.

The optical construction of the lens comprises 16 lens elements in 11 groups. The use of specialised glass elements such as LD (Low Dispersion) and aspherical lens elements effectively minimises chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion.

The Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD Lens officially retails for $649. Now let’s head over to the first reviews and samples.

From PhotographyBlog conclusion :

So as an all-in-one lens that covers everything from wide-angle to extreme close-ups, with the added bonus of tele-macro shooting too, the Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD certainly fits the bill, especially as it’s more than capable of capturing some lovely photos at a price that won’t break the bank.

You can also check out the full-size sample images captured both with JPEG and Raw here. The Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD sample images are taken with the Canon EOS 80D camera. More samples can be found officially at Tamron website.

From AmateurPhotographer review :

Compromises do always have to be made choosing an all-in-one lens that attempts so much across its range. Results at full telephoto are usable, but not spectacular. The visible distortion and chromatic aberration is rather offensive too, but shooting and editing in the raw format can remedy these optical flaws. For those after an all-in-one lens suitable for travel, safari and a multitude of different uses it’s certainly worth a closer look.
