Olympus E-PL7 and Silver E-M1 To Be Announced on August 28

Olympus to announce several new products by the end of August. The new E-PL7 and the silver E-M1 most likely become official on August 28 at 5-6am London time.

According to the trusted Japanese source Digicame-info, the upcoming Olympus PEN E-PL7 and the silver version OM-D E-M1 mirrorless cameras with Micro Four Thirds image sensors will be announced on August 28.

The announcement should also include the new firmware update for E-M1 which is expected to add many improvements and new features (addition of 4K video recording still unclear in rumors) and the long-rumored mid-range zoom Olympus M-Zuiko ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lens.

Olympus is planning to introduce new PRO-series lenses for Micro Four Thirds cameras. Along with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO lens announcement, Olympus may show the 7-14mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 PRO lenses as mockup.

Olympus E-PL7 Details

The PEN E-PL7 will be the only new PEN coming this year. The m43 shooter will be priced around $650 and available in black, silver and white colors. The new E-PL7 will have the specs very close to the entry-level OM-D E-M10 but it comes without the integrated viewfinder. See the full specs list of Olympus E-PL7.

Olympus 40-150mm F2.8 PRO Lens Details

Olympus M.Zuiko ED 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro will be the new mid-range zoom lens and become the second lens in the PRO series after 12-40 f/2.8 PRO. The price for the upcoming Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO lens rumored around $1,200 – $1,400 for US.

Silver E-M1 and New Firmware Update Details

The silver version Olympus OMD E-M1 is definitely coming (See the first leaked image). The Silver E-M1 will come packed with the big firmware upgrade and it will also be available for the current Black version too.

The new E-M1 firmware will be big but it is not clear if it will include IS compatible 4K video recording. Other features expected are as follows.

  • High Speed and Slow motion Mode (240p or 120p)
  • New Codec with different recording mode (24p,25p,30p,60p)
  • Motion Film

The Olympus announcement is expected to happen on August 28 and will also include a dedicated waterproof protector PT-EP12. Estimated retail price of the product will be 65,000 yen (around 600 usd). Stay tuned.
